Green Spot, the new restaurant from En Compañía de Lobos serves vegetarian cuisine aimed at satisfying both vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. The restaurant explores the rich and diverse world of vegetables and their abundant possibilities for delicious food. Vegetables, grains, legumes, seeds, nuts, herbs, cereals, fruits and dairy products are all interpreted from different points of view: broiled, steamed, wood oven fired, fried, baked, caramelized or served raw and combined with sauces, marinades, fermented or marinated.
Head chef Marcelino Jimenez worked with a vegetarian specialist to create original seasonal dishes using locally sourced produce. The menu is Mediterranean based but is also inspired by the cuisines of Japan, India, Mexico, the Middle East, South East Asia and Latin America.
Delicious appetizers include the Fried Cauliflower with Tamarind and Mint Sauce and Muhammara (a red pepper dip with walnuts, served with pita bread, carrot and celery.) Hearty main dishes from around the world such as the Chili Sin Carne and Quesadillas with Kimchi and Avocado leave meat eaters forgetting that they are in a vegetarian restaurant.
Salad lovers can choose between temptations such as the Japanese Seaweed Salad (with umeboshi-sesame vinaigrette) or the Kale and Quinoa Salad (with cherry tomatoes , hazelnuts and white miso vinaigrette.) A creative variety of pizzas are also offered, such as the Hemp Pizza with Maitake, Bimi and Halloumi. For desert, try the Lemon and Celery Sorbet. The menu indicates which dishes are vegan, gluten free or raw.
The restaurant is situated in a historic neoclassical building called Porxos d’en Xifré dating back to 1840. It is the group of buildings into which the Picasso family moved when they arrived in Barcelona in 1895. Brazilian architect Isay Wenfield designed the interior of Green Spot, creating a bright and comfortable space using fine woods, terracotta tiles, copper and linen. The kitchens are open and a large copper bar with views to the inner garden caters to those who may choose to eat alone.
En Compañía de Lobos was founded by Tomás Tarruella, who also co-founded Grupo Tragaluz. Other Barcelona restaurants from En Compañía de Lobos include Gallito, Palmito and El Ninot Cuina.
Green Spot also features live music on Tuesdays and Thursdays, enhancing the already convivial atmosphere.
