From 25 May to 25 September 2017 the exhibition “David Bowie is” will be shown at the Design Museum of Barcelona.

The Design Museum of Barcelona will be the only venue in Spain to host “David Bowie is”, the successful and ground-breaking exhibition organised by the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (V&A). The exhibition has received over 1.5 million visits on its world tour.

Within the framework of the Barcelona exhibition, several of the city’s venues will host a large number of activities related to the iconic British artist: from the Bowie Opening Party on 25 May at Sala Razzmatazz, to the extraordinary symphonic concert by OBC on 13 July at L’Auditori, featuring 65 musicians on stage; as well as a series of films showcasing all facets of the legendary artist.

There will also be the Bowie Talks at the UPF Barcelona School of Management, a set of Bowie focused conferences that will include prominent personalities linked to the artist, including the charismatic fashion designer Kansai Yamamoto, BBC documentary maker Francis Whately and the official photographer of several of his world tours Denis O’Regan, among others.

This spectacular show organised by the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (V&A) is one of the most successful exhibitions in the history of the London museum.

The V&A was given unprecedented access to the David Bowie Archive to curate the first international retrospective of the extraordinary career of David Bowie – one of the most pioneering and influential performers in a generation

“David Bowie is” explores the creative processes of David Bowie as a musical innovator and cultural icon, tracing his shifting style and sustained reinvention across five decades.

The exhibition also focuses on Bowie’s collaborative work with artists and designers, and demonstrates how his work has both influenced and been influenced by wider movements in art, design, music, and theatre.

V&A curators, Victoria Broackes and Geoffrey Marsh selected more than 300 objects to be brought together for the very first time in this retrospective. They include handwritten lyrics, original costumes, fashion, photography, film, music videos, set designs, Bowie’s own instruments and album artwork.

The best-selling exhibition has been on a worldwide tour since its inception at the V&A in 2013, and has travelled to nine venues in countries including Canada, Australia, Brazil and Japan.
