Ginette BCN opened in the summer of 2017, with a plan to bring Barcelona the best of French cuisine with Spanish and Catalan influences. Since then it has quickly earned a place among the top new restaurants in town. Situated on Carrer de Rec Comtal, it’s a short walk from the Arc de Triomf, originally the gateway to the 1888 Universal Exhibition.
Chef Hervé Escobar formerly worked at the Michelin starred Bristol of Paris restaurant. He creates classic French dishes such as Pato Magret Lacado a la Naranja, hard to find elsewhere in Barcelona. Other main courses include the Paletilla ibérica cocida en especias dulces con risotto de fregola sarda y shitke (Iberian pork shoulder cooked in sweet spices with fregola sarda risotto and shitke) and Buey madurado en reducción de vino tinto con patatas (Beef cooked in red wine reduction with potatoes).
Starters such as Croquetas de pato confitado, Las bravas de Ginette and Pulpo asado con chutney de piña (roasted octopus with pineapple chutney) are designed to share, great for both couples and groups of friends. Ingredients are local and seasonal, so the menu changes every six months.
A wide selection of Spanish and French wines compliment the menu. Ginnete also prides itself on their selection of signature and classic cocktails. Nigori Sour combines sake, yuzu, lychee, grapefruit, and Angostura. The timeless Cosmopolitan is prepared in traditional French style with St. Germain liqueur.
Among desserts, the chocolate mousse with salted caramel sauce and toasted hazelnuts is a crowd favorite. The Paris-Brest is named after the Paris-Brest-Paris bicycle race and made of choux pastry and a praline flavoured cream.
The interior is separated in two rooms, with the area to the rear overlooking a patio full of plants and the open kitchen. Rich floral wallpaper reflects the upbeat mood and creates a cosy atmosphere. There is even a foosball table, a distraction to gather around while enjoying cocktails with friends. The staff at Ginette are both warm and efficient. The level of service is reminiscent of a top restaurant in New York or London. Meanwhile the cosmopolitan clientele fit the chic El Born neighborhood. Advisable to book in advance as Ginette can get very busy. Profitez en bien!
