Key witness to the history of the 20th century, the French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908, Chanteloup-en-Brie, 2004, Montjustin), was known as the “eye of the century”. A patient and silent observer, but at the same time agile and expeditious, the artist captured scenes of people and events with his compact 35 mm Leica camera.
With a diverse and varied work, the exhibition presented by Fundación MAPFRE covers its entire path; from its beginnings, influenced by surrealism and the New Vision, passing through the photo report, which highlights some of his lesser-known works of the decade 1960 to his intimate style of his later years. In this way, the work of Cartier-Bresson is broken down far beyond the concept of “decisive instant” that made him famous.
